We are undertaking a special project in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the Saranac United Methodist Church. Built in 1862-63, the church is arguably the finest architectural specimen in Saranac. Its high ceilings, large opalescent leaded glass windows, and mostly wood construction render it a fine acoustical space. Hill and Hollow Music has been associated with the lovely historic “Church in the Hollow” since we began producing concerts there in 1995.
Our special project is to install track lighting on four ceiling beams in the “performance area” of the sanctuary: the choir, altar, and floor space in front of the pews. Better illumination will greatly improve the scenario for concerts, as well as regular church functions. We are working closely with the church trustees and professionals from Champlain Valley Electric to achieve the best possible result: effective and attractive lighting which will also be as flexible and unobtrusive as possible.

We ask for your support for a worthy project. We need to raise $3,500 for the lighting fixtures, supplies, and installation. For every $25 donated you will receive the set of seven Saranac-themed note cards pictured here. These cards are “museum gift-store” quality: printed on high-quality coated cardstock, the colors rich and vibrant; all are blank inside with identification on the reverse; sizes are uniform (6.25″ x 4.5″) and A6 white envelopes are included. Please consider making a gift of $25 or more – all amounts are tax-deductible.
If you would like further information about our plans to improve lighting at the church or other plans for continuing concerts at the church, do not hesitate to call us at 518-293-7613 or e-mail us at hillholl@hughes.net. Thank you for helping us accomplish a project that will undoubtedly enhance future concerts and the enjoyment of wonderful live classical chamber music in a wonderful acoustical and historical space!
Sincerely, Angela Brown and Kellum Smith, and Hill and Hollow Music Trustees: Bruce Butterfield, Renate Erickson, Larry Kudrle, Kevin Roser, Carole Anne Slatkin, James Votraw, Mark White
